The first Zen Bu Kan Kempo CLUB IN THE UK
St Albans Kempo Club was established in 2023 to become the first Zen Bu Kan Kempo club in the UK.
What is Zen Bu Kan Kempo.
A mixed martial art that combines traditional techniques with modern training methods.
It emphasizes a holistic and practical approach to self-defence, incorporating strikes,
kicks, throws, and ground fighting. The syllabus and grading system is like Karate and
includes the learning of Kata (forms) to improve coordination and timing. Techniques are overlapping with from many other martial arts, including:
- Karate
- Boxing
- Kickboxing
- Muay Thai
- Judo
- BJJ
- Wrestling
And many, many more…

Who is it for?
Currently, we offer adult classes only, but please contact us if your child is interested, as
we are looking to offer classes to under 18’s in the near future.
Our classes are beginner-friendly and suitable for anyone in good health, regardless of
age, gender, or sports background. Prior martial arts experience is helpful, but certainly
not required.
Where do we train?
Tuesday 18:30 – 19:30
Friday 20:30 – 21:30
We train at the Judo Dojo in Batchwood Sport Centre – This is an incredible facility with
a large sprung tatami area perfect for martial arts!
Why not pop down to check out one of our training sessions, or discuss how you can get
started?
What should I expect?
Classes start with a warm-up, followed by general fitness conditioning to sharpen the
body and mind. This leads on to focused technique training – which could range from
boxing, to BJJ or practicing the Kata, depending on what has been planned for the day.
Each session ends with a cool-down and stretch.
For optimal progress, it is recommended to train at least twice per week. However,
any amount of training is always good . 🙂
What should I wear?
For beginners, a t-shirt and shorts is fine. Please come in shoes or flip flops, as when
we are on the tatami mat, we train bare foot.
Once you become a more experienced Kempoka, you will need to train in the
traditional Black Gi with white trousers and a coloured belt.
How much does it cost?
The first session is always FREE
Price per session = £8
Monthly subscription = £25-50 per calendar month
The monthly subscription option entitles you to attend all trainings within that month and is by far the best value option!
Please contact us on the below if you have any further questions.
